Supporting young people

We’re delighted that we registered with the government’s Kick Start programme, which provides funding to create jobs for 16-24-year-olds who are on universal credit and at risk of long-term employment.

The scheme closes for applications on 31 March 2022 and we’re pleased to announce that we’ve successfully recruited four people to the scheme in trainee warehouse and trainee customer services roles, two at Somerset WCS and two at Herts WCS.

The funding covers 100% of the national minimum wage (or national living wage, depending on the age of the participant) for 25 hours per week, for six months, and associated employer NI contributions.

Our colleague Kane Fretwell (18), who works at Herts WCS, joined us under the Kick Start scheme. Kane was involved in the Prince’s Trust after school and then decided to join Kick Start to gain work experience, to help him gain future employment. He was offered three businesses and chose Millbrook Healthcare because the job was the most appealing to him.

Since joining our company, Kane has said that he has gained experience and understanding of our products and service and enjoys the atmosphere and culture at Millbrook Healthcare.
