Disability Pride Month

July is Disability Pride Month – a global celebration rooted in the first disability pride events of July 1990, held alongside the historic signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Since its official recognition in 2015, Disability Pride Month has grown into a vibrant, month-long movement celebrating the resilience, achievements and contributions of disabled people worldwide. Here in the UK, we take this time to highlight and honour the more than 16 million disabled people whose experiences enrich and shape our communities.

At Millbrook Healthcare, empowering independence means putting accessibility and inclusion at the centre of everything we do. Over 40% of our Community Equipment Services workforce lives with a long-term health condition or disability, bringing valuable lived experience into every solution we develop.

Whether it’s delivering clinically governed wheelchair services, custom home adaptations, or tailored telecare solutions, we design each service with a deep understanding of diverse needs – ensuring our equipment not only fits into lives, but actively enhances them.

This Disability Pride Month, we renew our commitment to:

  • Amplifying disabled voices: Celebrating stories of resilience, creativity and achievement across our teams and communities.
  • Championing accessibility: Ensuring our communications, training resources, and digital platforms meet or surpass accessibility standards.
  • Co-producing solutions: Actively seeking feedback from disabled colleagues, service users, and community partners to continuously improve our services.

We warmly invite you to celebrate Disability Pride Month with us. Share your stories, experiences or suggestions on how we can better support independence for everyone. If you have insights, ideas, or a powerful story about how accessible equipment has impacted your life or the lives of others, please reach out to us.

Together, let’s create communities where every person, regardless of ability, can live with dignity, choice, belonging, and without barriers.
