At Millbrook Healthcare, we believe that every individual’s perspective enriches our workplace culture and improves the care we provide. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight Neurodiversity Celebration Week – a global movement recognizing that neurological differences like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, and other conditions are part of humanity’s natural diversity. Research from NHS England suggests that at least 1 in 7 people in the UK are neurodivergent, each contributing unique strengths in areas such as creativity, problem-solving, and innovative thinking.
For many, embracing neurodiversity means shifting the focus from “fixing” individuals to adapting environments, tools, and attitudes to help everyone thrive. That’s why Millbrook Healthcare we want to celebrate Neurodiversity week by raising awareness to better meet the needs of both colleagues and service users. Resources such as Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism and NHS England’s Neurodiversity Hub illustrate how small changes – like clearer communication, flexible workspaces, or assistive technology – can make a big difference.
“Neurodiversity week reminds us that there is no one way to learn, think, or succeed. With my ADHD, I’ve found that the right support helps me channel my energy and creativity in ways that benefit our team and service users,” says Venetia Lawrence, CES Clinical Lead and Designated Safeguarding Lead at CES. “By recognising the value of different minds, we can create a truly inclusive environment where everyone thrives.”
Throughout Neurodiversity Week, Millbrook is encouraging employees to explore helpful resources from trusted organisations like ADHD Aware, the ADHD Foundation, and the National Autistic Society. By learning more about these conditions, you can better support colleagues, friends, and service users alike.
Celebrating neurodiversity isn’t a one-week event – it’s an ongoing commitment to create a workplace where all voices and experiences matter. We invite you to join us in exploring fresh ways to collaborate, communicate, and innovate so that, together, we can uphold Millbrook’s mission: to foster independence and enhance well-being for everyone in our community.
