Wheelchair Services

For more than three decades we have worked alongside the NHS and Local Authorities to deliver equipment, home-adaptations and technology solutions that empower people to live safely and independently. Building on that experience, we are re-introducing Wheelchair Services to our portfolio, sitting alongside Community Equipment Services, Home Services and Technology Enabled Care.

Our multidisciplinary team will manage everything from clinical assessment, prescription and supply, through to repair and ongoing maintenance, easing pressure on carers and loved ones while putting the service user’s goals first. Millbrook Healthcare is already listed on the NHS Supply Chain Framework for Wheelchairs, Specialist Seating and Related Services, giving commissioners a fast, compliant route to quality care.

Assessment and eligibility

Your path to confident mobility starts with a conversation.
  • We carry out holistic clinical assessments that look at mobility, posture and pressure care as it fits into your life, so each wheelchair supports long-term health and independence.

  • All assessments are carried out by our highly skilled clinicians: Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Engineers – bringing evidence-based expertise and best practice to every appointment.

  • To access a Millbrook Healthcare Wheelchair Service, you’ll need to be registered with a relevant GP and meet locally agreed eligibility criteria.
  • Where commissioners allow, you can refer yourself directly; we’ll guide you through the paperwork.

  • If you’re not eligible for a wheelchair from the NHS, we won’t leave you guessing – we’ll direct you to other organisations and funding routes that may help.

Specialist provision and personalisation

Our wheelchair solutions offer personal choice.
  • Acting on behalf of the NHS and Local Authorities, we provide wheelchairs to meet your long-term mobility needs, from basic wheelchairs to specialist wheelchairs and seating, covering assessment, supply, repair, maintenance and clinical review.

  • Our end-to-end care pathway is open to every age group (contract dependent) and includes custom seating within contracted arrangements.

  • We offer support with accessing Personal Wheelchair Budgets (PWBs), giving you choice and control to personalise equipment around your lifestyle goals.

Clinical expertise and collaboration

Behind every successful outcome is a team that works together.

Your care is led by a multidisciplinary team of Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Rehabilitation Engineers, supported by Occupational Therapy and Rehabilitation Engineering assistants, as well as non-clinical technicians. We actively involve other professionals involved in your care, such as District Nurses or school and community therapy staff, so that the advice you receive remains consistent and every adjustment serves your broader care plan.

Easy access and support tools

Getting the support you need should be simple and stress-free.

Once you’re registered, help is only a phone call or email away. Our secure, purpose-built database tracks referrals, appointments, equipment provision and repairs in real time, enabling us to answer queries quickly and keep you, your clinicians and carers up to date at every stage.

Ongoing support and accessible facilities

Care doesn’t stop when the wheelchair is handed over to you.

Our mobile technicians repair and maintain all NHS-issued wheelchairs in the setting that suits you best – whether that be your home or another chosen location – minimising disruption to daily life. We also operate service centres equipped with Changing Places toilets, welcoming any disabled person who needs fully accessible facilities, whether or not they use our wheelchair service.
