Customer Service Training Achievement

Millbrook Healthcare Trusted Assessors

At Millbrook Healthcare, our goal is simple: to help people live more safely and independently at home. A key part of achieving that is the work of our Trusted Assessors (TAs).

What is a Trusted Assessor?

A Trusted Assessor is a trained professional who carries out equipment assessments to make sure people get the right support, at the right time, in the right way.

They bridge the gap between clinical teams and service delivery, working closely with occupational therapists, healthcare providers, and families to ensure every individual has the equipment they need to live safely and confidently.

Core responsibilities of a Trusted Assessor

Trusted Assessors carry out a wide range of responsibilities to ensure the service runs smoothly, efficiently, and safely. Their roles include:

  • Assessing equipment needs
Finding the most suitable equipment to support independence, comfort, and safety.
  • Ensuring safety and compliance
Making sure every item provided is safe, properly fitted, and tailored to the individual.
  • Collaborating with professionals
Working alongside occupational therapists, NHS teams, and local authorities.
  • Safeguarding service users
Spotting risks and acting quickly if there are concerns about a person’s safety or wellbeing.
  • Documentation and record keeping
Keeping clear, accurate records so every decision is transparent and accountable.

How Trusted Assessors support prescribers

One of the biggest advantages of Trusted Assessors is the way they support prescribers and clinicians. By handling straightforward equipment assessments and installations, TAs:

  • Free up prescribers’ time so they can focus on more complex cases and direct clinical care.
  • Ensure faster service user support, reducing waiting times and preventing unnecessary delays.
  • Provide reassurance that equipment has been safely installed, documented, and risk-assessed.
  • Improve communication by keeping prescribers informed with clear records and referral notes when additional clinical oversight is required.

For prescribers, this means less time spent on routine cases and more time available for specialist input where it’s most needed — ultimately benefiting both the professional and the service user.

Why are Trusted Assessors vital?

Trusted Assessors play a vital role in keeping people safe at home and reducing pressures on healthcare systems. By assessing needs directly and providing equipment quickly, they:

  • Prevent avoidable hospital admissions.
  • Support quicker discharges back home.
  • Give families confidence that their loved ones are supported.
  • Allow occupational therapists to focus on more complex cases.

Our commitment

It’s one thing to describe what a Trusted Assessor does – but it’s another to hear it first-hand.

In our Behind the Care series, we spoke to Chris Smith, a Trusted Assessor at Millbrook, about what motivates him, the proudest moments of his role, and the human side of care that often goes unseen. You can read Chris’s story here.

At Millbrook, we are proud of the work our Trusted Assessors do every day. They embody our We Care ethos, ensuring that every person they visit feels respected, supported, and valued.
